Amy has a passion for supporting and caring for birthing families using an individualized and holistic approach. She believes loving, nurturing and respectful health and wellness care can be an incredibly empowering and powerful experience. Amy knows and trusts in the innate ability of pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding to bring strength, healing, and joy to women, their babies and the entire family.
Amy has a science and theater background, graduating with a B.S. in Biochemistry with a minor in Theatre from a small women’s college, Russell Sage, in upstate New York in 1998. She worked as lab technician and researcher in the fields of biochemical genetics, analytical biochemistry, and bioengineering. Amy had dreamed of becoming a midwife, but it was the transformative power of the natural birth of her first child, in 2005, that gave her the courage to begin her midwifery journey. She became a Bradley Natural Childbirth educator and DONA doula serving families since 2006. In 2010 she went on to study traditional midwifery through a MEAC-accredited school, Midwives College of Utah, and the apprenticeship model in the homebirth setting. Amy is an Arizona Licensed Midwife and a Certified Professional Midwife.
Amy is delighted to join the amazing team at Blossom Birth Center. She feels it is a great honor and privilege to serve Blossom families during this special time in life. When is comes right down to it Amy loves being a midwife from prenatal visits to postpartum visits and everything in between. She feels there is something almost magical about being called to a birth, especially those 2am calls, when the night is quiet, the city lights glow, the night sky filled with stars, and her heart fills with joy and anticipation for the growing family working to bring a new person earthside. It is a wondrous and inspiring time.
Amy lives in the heart of Phoenix with her brave and courageous husband and their 3 busy boys.
