What is Blossom?
Blossom Birth Center is a free-standing birth center in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona that provides natural childbirth to low- risk, healthy pregnant women. Blossom is a truly collaborative space created to cultivate peace, love, and healthy families.

 

What are Blossom outcomes data and why do they matter?
Blossom outcomes are astounding and yes they matter. We opened our doors August of 2010 and cumulatively over our four years we have a 94% success rate. That means 94% of our clients birth naturally at our beautiful birth center. Blossom has a 5% c-section rate!

How do I pay for my birth at Blossom?
Blossom Birth Center maternity care package includes all prenatal care, labor, birth and postpartum care for you and your baby. Our package price is kept artificially low to meet the needs of all families. Blossom offers flexible payment plans, accepts United Medical Credit and all major credit cards. Can I use my insurance at Blossom?
Yes! Insurance premiums for families are a large expense and that is why Blossom’s Dr. Nichelle Whitehead has chosen to contract as an In-Network provider. See our insurance page for more information on specific providers and your benefit packages.

Blossom integrates a mind, body, spirit approach incorporating education into every visit beginning with our amazing prenatal binder given at your first prenatal appointment.

Our maternity care package also includes: Certified Organic Pregnancy Tonic Teas and other products from Healing Earth Botanicals.

 

Is Blossom Accredited?
Yes, Blossom is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation for For Birth Centers. We are licensed by the state as an Outpatient Treatment Facility.

 

Does Blossom have a medical director?
Blossom has an amazing Medical Director, Dr. Nichelle Whitehead, MD, FACOG, IBCLC.  She has hospital privileges at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and has been active with their OB Care Committee Team. Her relationship with St. Joseph’s Hospital is truly amazing and ensures our clients receive the best care whenever the hospital becomes necessary. Partnering with the wonderful team at St. Joseph’s improves the quality of care we can provide to our clients.

 

If I need to go to the hospital, where would I go?
If it is necessary to go to the hospital, we go with you to St. Joseph’s Hospital. It is located just down Thomas road and is where Dr. Nichelle Whitehead, MD has hospital privileges, has practiced and taught for many years. If there is an issue with the baby after birth, we would go to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, which is a half block away.

 

What makes Blossom different from other Birth Centers?
Blossom was founded and is owned by Nichelle Whitehead, MD and Mary Langlois, CPM. Mary has helped women have babies naturally for over 30 years and has given birth herself to 11 children all out of hospital. She is an expert in natural childbirth and if that is your goal Blossom can help. Nichelle is an amazing Obstetrician that has chosen to practice the midwifery model of care. She had her babies with midwives and together their blend of styles provides awesome care that cannot be matched.

 

Are childbirth classes included?
Blossom educates and empowers our clients during every visit. Blossom highly recommends Birthing From Within and has Instructors that teach at Blossom.

 

Does Blossom take care of the birth certificate and social security registration?
Yes. After your baby is born at Blossom we complete the birth certificate worksheet and send it to the state. A social security card will be sent directly to you, if you desire.

 

Does Blossom Birth Center have any risk exclusion policies?
Blossom Birth Center Midwives care for a diverse client population. We provide care to healthy moms. As such, some conditions are not compatible with care at Blossom Birth Center. These include:

  • Twins or other multiple-gestation pregnancies
  • Previous Cesarean Section
  • Significant Cardiac conditions
  • Chronic Hypertension
  • BMI >35
  • Severe Anemia not corrected with medication
  • Substance use during pregnancy
  • Other significant medical conditions may require advanced care not listed above.
  • During pregnancy, conditions may develop, requiring consultation or transfer of care.
